The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
By my house, there is an Exxon gas station. It’s your basic gas station; there are a few gas pumps and a little convenience store, but what happens over top of it in the morning is what makes it special. Most mornings around 7 o’clock the sun rises just over the top of that Exxon gas station. If the conditions are right the sky will be brushed with hues of pink, orange, and yellow that make it hard to keep your eyes on the road. While it’s no sunset over the ocean, or beautiful mountain peaking through the clouds, I can’t count the number of times I’ve been struck by the beauty of the sunrise over the Exxon gas station. As you go about your day today take notice of the little things that have beauty in them. Whether it’s people created in God’s image, trees, grasses or flowers; when you are amazed by creation–by something big or small– remember to direct that amazement and praise to the God who created it all. The fact that in his goodness God would bless us with an earth so pleasing to the eye tells us a great deal about his character and how much He loves us. The heavens and sky are singing praises to the God of the universe, so we might as well sing along because he deserves it.
